Old is a State of Mind, but it's near Ohio

Well, it's another yearly milestone passed for me--last week I turned 50. In honor of that event, my wife planned a big surprise party with our church family, who showed up to the gym while we had a board meeting going on (yes, I had to go to a meeting on my birthday). It was great fun, and I was so blessed by everyone coming. It almost made having to watch the old "Jeopardy" video bearable (from when I was a losing contestant 20 years ago). When anybody asked, I could honestly say I didn't feel old.

Today is another matter. I am coming down with the flu, or a cold, or some such virus, and feel about 120. Hopefully my temperature is nowhere near there. It has also been icy and snowy, with today being the first in three that the kids have gone to school. Driving and even being outside is a challenge--the outside thermometer is still in single digits.

Isn't it amazing how much our physical health and surroundings can drastically affect our attitudes, our perceptions of life, everything. I feel about as different from last week as would be humanly possible. Yet, I also know that if I rest and get better, my feelings and attitudes will also rebound. It just doesn't help right now, does it? I'm going to bed.
